Chiropractic Services

Many people have pain and holding patterns in their bodies, which are frequently focused on their spine and neck. These behaviors develop over time and are often triggered by a traumatic event or episode in which the body tenses and braces. The patterns become ingrained in the body and persist long after the stressful events have passed.

Our natural breathing rhythms are almost always disrupted by these holding patterns and the resulting body tension. A young baby’s breathing is characterized by an easy flowing wave through the body, but tension disrupts this easy and intuitive pattern. Most people have this wave blocked, and their breathing is often shallow and limited as a result of just using a tiny fraction of their true capacity.

Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) is a type of treatment that releases and removes these deeply ingrained holding patterns and tensions. It delivers this through a very gentle system of light touches (called entrainments) as well as coaching and breathing technique exercises. Through a series of light touches, the practitioner suggest to your body how it can release tension and realign itself in a more balanced manner. The goal of NSA is to aid your body in healing itself.

Our Services

NSA Chiropratic Therapy

In NSA, patterns of spinal tension and healing are spontaneously corrected and self-regulated. New strategies for healing, adapting to stress, and experiencing wellness can be developed by enhancing the body’s awareness of itself, specifically its spine.

NSA involves gentle touch contacts along the neck and back to promote greater brain-body communication, as well as new sensory and motor strategies. NSA uses an approach associated with somatic (body/spinal awareness) training.

Life events can shape us into all kinds of odd and not-so-good body postures over the course of our lives. Our spines curve and distort, and we become asymmetrical, with one shoulder carried higher than the other, or our heads jut forward, or we hunch. It is a mostly unconscious process, but the effects are noticeable, manifesting as backaches, stiff necks, headaches, restricted movement, and a real sense of discomfort.

The office is located inside Balance Within Therapies, a multi-disciplinary office suite. As you enter the office, an atmosphere of peace and calm can be felt. Take in the simple beauty of all the plants as sounds of flowing water or soft music soothe and quiet your mind. A short walk through the hall brings you to my space where serene music, gentle scents, and soft lights help to further accompany you to relaxation.

The initial visit consists of us getting to know each other and a brief exam. I want to know about life experiences that may have affected your spine…information about falls, accidents, traumatic events, and life challenges – as little or as much as you care to share with the understanding that it is confidential and helps me to get a better understanding of what care you may need. Feel free to ask me as many questions about care as you need to in order to feel comfortable about the journey we’re about to embark on together, for the betterment of your spine, nervous system, health, and life!

Dr. Cheryl Key

Dr. Cheryl Key

Chief Chiropractor

Dr. Cheryl was born and raised in Orange NJ. After graduating from high school, she moved to Philadelphia to attend pharmacy school. Dr. Cheryl always wanted to help people and was interested in health because of losing 3 of her grandparents before age 16 and her ailing grandmother.

After pharmacy school, she moved to Maryland and practiced pharmacy before she discovered Chiropractic. Once she saw how it changed people’s lives, she rearranged her life to attend Chiropractic school at Life University in Georgia.

In 1998 she moved to Richmond and opened her business, for years working out of her home until 2018 when she moved to the office in the west end.

The technique she uses is Network Chiropractic, also known as Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) or Network Spine.

This technique is very gentle and relaxing, but very effective. It is great for reducing stress and relieving tension.

Her philosophy on Chiropractic is that it is a way of life and an invaluable health tool. As long as you have a spine and are alive, you must support the health of your nervous system which affects every cell in your body.
